About The Position

Ellsworth County Medical Center (ECMC) is seeking a Patient Access Representative Lead to support, guide, and strengthen our Patient Access team. This role blends front-line patient interaction with team leadership, process improvement, and financial advocacy—making it a key connector between patients, staff, and systems. Requirements

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to lead through support, consistency, and problem-solving
  • Attention to detail and comfort working with insurance, financial, and patient data
  • Confidence handling sensitive conversations with empathy and professionalism
  • Experience in patient registration, patient access, or healthcare front office work preferred
  • High School diploma or equivalent required; associate degree in business/accounting or related field preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience
  • Excellent skills in organization, prioritization, and multi-tasking
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects
  • Excellent interpersonal and technical skills with an ability to lead, train, and motivate a team
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with ability to explain diverse technical problems in easy-to-understand language
  • Strong independent judgment and decision-making skills
  • Ability to maintain high level of confidentiality
  • Knowledge of legal and technical aspects of admitting patients, third party insurance and scope of responsibility in treating indigent patients
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office and electronic medical record

Responsibilities

  • Lead & Support the Patient Access Team
  • Serve as a resource for Patient Access Representatives, answering questions and reinforcing best practices
  • Provide guidance, coaching, and real-time support to ensure consistent, high-quality registration processes
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and share recommendations with leadership
  • Support onboarding and ongoing workflow alignment for the team
  • Patient Registration & Front Desk Excellence
  • Interview patients and/or their representatives to obtain accurate demographic and financial information
  • Identify available payer sources and ensure all required registration data is captured
  • Verify insurance coverage and eligibility
  • Review and assist patients with completing all required documentation, ensuring completeness and appropriate signatures
  • Collect co-payments, deductibles, and deposits in accordance with policy
  • Answer phones, schedule appointments, transfer calls appropriately, and compose messages
  • Provide general information while maintaining professionalism and patient confidentiality
  • Helping Hands Program Support
  • Assist with ECMC’s Helping Hands Program, our medication financial assistance program
  • Help patients navigate eligibility, documentation, and next steps related to medication affordability
  • Collaborate with internal teams to support patients facing financial barriers to care
