About The Position

The Patient Access Auditor/Trainer plays a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of patient registration and insurance information across the organization. This position supports both quality assurance and education by auditing registration work, identifying gaps, and delivering training to registration staff across inpatient, emergency department, and outpatient settings. The role works closely with registrars and leadership to improve processes, maintain compliance, and enhance the overall patient access experience.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • 5 - 7 years of experience in patient registration, patient access, or closely related field
  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology, insurance processes, and managed care practices
  • Understanding of insurance eligibility and regulatory/compliance requirements
  • Basic computer skills with the ability to navigate multiple systems
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to educate and train others
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to audit and resolve discrepancies
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and work independently
  • Professionalism and confidence when addressing audit findings and staff questions
  • Ability to problem-solve and take initiative in a fast-paced environment

Responsibilities

  • Audit daily registration worklists to ensure accurate demographic and insurance information
  • Perform follow-up with patients, employers, and other sources to resolve missing or incomplete information
  • Review and correct issues related to insurance eligibility, coordination of benefits, and guarantor details
  • Educate and train Emergency Department, inpatient, and outpatient registrars on registration workflows and best practices
  • Provide instruction on admissions, transfers, patient movement, and outpatient check-in processes
  • Ensure compliance with insurance regulations and requirements for accurate reimbursement
  • Conduct registrar audits and provide feedback, coaching, and re-education as needed
  • Assist staff with insurance, demographic, and registration-related questions
  • Train staff on patient estimates, financial workflows, and consent/HIPAA documentation
  • Support system downtime procedures and troubleshooting protocols
  • Cross-train in registration functions and provide departmental coverage as needed
  • Maintain a strong focus on customer service and patient satisfaction throughout all interactions
