About The Position

This position is located on the Saint Francis Main Campus and entails supporting a busy Children's Hospital of Illinois specialty clinic office. The scope of work will include answering phones, pre-registration, scheduling, referral work, reminder phone calls, onsite registration and collaboration with the clinical team caring for pediatric patients with complex care needs. Cross training in other CHOI offices is required to assist with coverage, as needed. POSITION SUMMARY: The Patient Access Associate ensures each registered patient has a complete and accurate OSF medical record, which includes patient demographics, insurance coverage, responsible guarantor and registration precision in a manner which they understand what services they are receiving, their financial responsibilities for the services provided, and expectations of them while at the facility. Excellent patient service skills are expected to create an exceptional first impression of OSF’s services to the patients, families, and other external patients over the phone or in person. A high degree of deductive reasoning and logic skills are necessary in order to solve issues that can arise in a complex, multi-payer situation.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • One year in an office clerical setting or customer service environment
  • Working knowledge of standard Microsoft Office applications and website navigation
  • Problem solving skills
  • Conflict management skills
  • Time management skills
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Required to complete all role specific revenue cycle training and certification within 12 months

Nice To Haves

  • Three years in an office clerical setting or customer service environment
  • Direct experience in a revenue cycle or medical setting
  • Advanced knowledge of CPT4, ICD9/10, HCPCS, and modifiers
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
