About The Position

The Patient Access Associate registers patients in a courteous, professional, and timely manner. The role conducts patient and guarantor interviews, explains hospital policies, helps patients understand their financial responsibilities, and informs them about their bill of rights. The associate ensures required demographic and financial data is obtained and accurately documented, contacts insurance payers to verify eligibility and benefits as needed, and obtains pre-certification or authorization in accordance with payer payment protocols. The role also assists patients with financial screening assessments for program eligibility and processes payments as necessary.

Requirements

• Two years of experience in a customer service-related field.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to deal tactfully with associates, patients, visitors, and the general public.
• Basic computer literacy and keyboarding skills.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Knowledge of commercial and managed care payers and terminology.
• Bilingual English/Spanish required.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in a healthcare setting preferred.
• Training or educational background in medical terminology preferred.
• Familiarity with ICD9 coding preferred.
