About The Position

The PATHS Therapeutic After School Program at Mt. Hope Family Center is a clinical intervention designed to build social skills and emotion identity and development with children ages 6-11 from the city of Rochester. Some of these children have histories of complex trauma and/or behavioral challenges. Counselors work directly with the children developing and implementing the Promoting Alternative THinking Strategies (PATHS) skills curriculum and problem-solving any needs that may arise. The program will run from June 30th to August 13th, with training sessions on June 23rd, 24th, and 25th. Counselors must be flexible within the program hours, which can range from 8:30 am to 6:30 pm, and commit to all training and program days. Some remote work may be required for lesson plan preparation on non-program days.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must be able to commit to all days of training and program.
  • Must have flexibility within the program time frames.
  • Position will require OCFS and UR Compliance Office Background Clearance for work with minors.

Nice To Haves

  • Valid NYS driver's license.

Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively with co-counselors to plan and implement classroom lessons utilizing the PATHS Curriculum for a classroom of 6 assigned children.
  • Manage behaviors, using behavior management and reward systems to encourage the development of positive social-emotional habits and coping skills.
  • Work collaboratively with the program supervisor to support crisis intervention events and monitor clinical concerns for program children.
  • Participate in group and individual supervision meetings with the direct supervisor to problem-solve classroom management, behavioral, and co-counseling challenges.
  • Monitor buses to support safe and efficient transportation of children to and from the program, communicating with the assistant program coordinator and bus drivers.
  • Engage in group lesson planning and preparation, meeting weekly face-to-face with co-counselors to plan lessons and classroom structure, including preparation of activity materials.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
