About The Position

Pathology Technicians at our hospital laboratory sites are responsible for providing a wide variety of technical and administrative support including specimen accessioning, maintaining the lab, scheduling and performing procedures, resolving discrepancies, as well as providing general procedural support to pathologists and hospital staff and physicians. This position requires great flexibility, attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy. This location is fast paced and requires immense flexibility and prioritization. Pathology Technicians are also responsible for adhering to HIPAA standards and strict Standard Operating Procedures and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements. Environmental hazards such as formalin, communicable disease, fresh human tissue, etc. are present in the workplace. The position schedule is Monday-Friday, 8:30 am - 5:00 pm with the ability to be flexible on hours and rotates within North Division sites for coverage (Everett, Edmonds and Evergreen).

Requirements

  • Combination of High school graduate AND 1+ year of relevant clinical/laboratory experience

  • Ability to troubleshoot and deal with conflicts
  • Knowledge of Standard Operating Procedures and PPE requirements
  • Valid driver's license & safe driving record required

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's in medical technology, chemical, physical, or biological science strongly preferred
  • Previous experience working a clinical/medical/laboratory environment
  • Medical terminology knowledge
  • Previous data entry experience
  • Previous customer service experience
  • Basic computer knowledge (Word, Excel, etc.)

Responsibilities

  • Intakes and accession specimens accurately and timely
  • Schedules and assists with patient procedures performed at the hospital which may include but are not limited to FNA procedures, bone marrow biopsies, CT/US procedures, etc.
  • Assists the pathologists with intraoperative evaluations such as frozen sections
  • Assists Pathologists with specimen and workstation prep
  • Assists in sending out material to other institutions
  • Investigates and corrects specimen issues
  • Assists with quality assurance and fulfilling compliance requirements
  • Provides pathologists support which includes but is not limited to slide distribution and manifest, conference prep, pending lists, and triaging phone calls
  • Delivers specimens to relevant sites/departments and assists couriers as needed
  • Perform maintenance and daily operational tasks
  • Provides cross coverage to other hospital sites as needed
  • Stocks supplies and cleans lab areas
  • Other duties as assigned
