The Pathology Lab Assistant is responsible for organizing, and prepping slides; as well as maintaining proper documentation, equipment and supplies needed for the pathology lab. This role involves maintaining the diagnostic viability of all specimens received, ensuring correct labeling, and completing the sorting and accessioning of pathology specimens. The assistant will also initiate daily grossing logs, prepare specimen cassettes, and organize slides for distribution to the Pathologist. This position requires identifying and reporting problems to senior staff, troubleshooting with supervision, and responding to requests from endoscopy centers and physicians. Additionally, the role includes filing and inventorying patient slides and blocks, managing lab supply inventory, and maintaining lab equipment through upkeep, quality control checks, and logs. The assistant will participate in continuing education and in-service training sessions, adhere to department policies and objectives (including quality assurance, safety, environmental, and infection control), and follow all CLIA, OSHA, and other regulatory requirements. Any other duties and special projects as assigned are also part of the responsibilities.
