About The Position

This position is responsible for performing a variety of duties, including, but not limited to supporting the Pathologists and Pathology office team. The Pathology Case Navigator will work closely with Pathologists to handle a variety of tasks, including case statuses, resolving discrepancies, ensuring accuracy and completeness of all documents from consultations, and troubleshooting issues. Interacts closely with Pathologists for the preparation of case materials ensuring that all necessary slides, reports, and molecular testing results are available for tumor board conferences. Facilitates interdisciplinary collaboration by serving as a liaison between pathologists, oncologists, surgeons and other specialists to ensure timely and accurate communication. Responsible for the management of “send-outs” shipping, monitoring and tracking case materials, consultations, and referral testing ensuring timely sending and receiving. Process attorney requests for patient slides for legal matters; maintain all documentation related to these requests. Assist in generating and managing reports as directed by the supervisor, medical director, and administrative lab director, and participate in process improvement projects, which include data collection, updating procedures, and streamlining workflows. Performs all administrative functions, including answering calls and providing related follow-through, maintaining adequate office supplies, sorting, and distributing mail, faxing document, filing microscope slides and tissue blocks, and all other duties as needed. Work in conjunction with Pathology and Lab team to ensure adherence to quality, safety, regulatory, certification and accreditation standards in compliance with the policies and procedures mandated by TJC, CAP, OSHA, and other accrediting agencies. Supports all other areas of the Pathology department as needed. Performs all other duties assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate or Equivalent
  • Competent with the medical terminology needed to perform the job.
  • Knowledgeable with the overall pathology policies, procedures, and service.
  • This position requires experience, knowledge, and superior independent judgement as well as excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Participates and assists with the efficient and effective departmental operations, including department quality control and compliance adherence.
  • Ability to utilize more than one computer system to track and receive orders.
  • Able to learn specimen requirements for ordering of anatomical pathology tissue testing and processing.
  • Excellent communication skills both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to self-direct and exercise independent judgment in situations requiring follow-up and discussions with clinical staff and/or other areas of Laboratory to ensure completeness of task and customer satisfaction.
  • Works well in a team environment to accomplish common tasks to solve problems and enhance the smooth and efficient flow of the department.

  • Two years pathology experience preferred.
