About The Position

Labcorp is seeking a Pathology Assistant to join our team in Lakewood, CO. This is a PRN/Casual position, hours will be "as needed", start and end times can vary. The role involves performing complete dissection, gross description, selection and submission of tissue for microscopic examination and special studies following departmental guidelines. The assistant will follow laboratory procedures for specimen handling and processing, adhere to quality control policies, and assist other areas within the department with specified assignments after their primary job is completed. Maintaining a professional environment, identifying and correcting problems that could affect test performance, and upholding high ethical standards are crucial. Knowledge of hazardous waste management, personal protection measures, and bloodborne pathogens is also required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a Chemical or Biological Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, or Medical Technology
  • 2 years or more of grossing experience small biopsies and complex surgical cases
  • Proficient with computers; Familiarity with laboratory information systems
  • Knowledge of quality control and quality assurance processes
  • Strong communication skills; both written and verbal
  • High level of attention detail along with strong organizational skills
  • Knowledge of hazardous waste management and personal protection measures
  • Ability to handle the physical requirements of the position
  • Able to pass a standardized color blindness test

Nice To Haves

  • Current or prior Labcorp experience
  • Completion of a NAACLS accredited PA program
  • Certified by the American Society of Clinical Pathology
  • Previous experience grossing small biopsies and complex surgical cases
  • Experience in a high volume clinical laboratory environment
  • Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs

Responsibilities

  • Perform complete dissection, gross description, selection and submission of tissue for microscopic examination and special studies following departmental guidelines
  • Follow the laboratory's procedure for specimen handling and processing
  • Adhere to the laboratory's quality control policies and procedures
  • Assist other areas rotations within the department with specified assignments in a timely manner after the assigned job has been completed
  • Ensure a professional environment is maintained
  • Identify problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and work to correct or report the problem
  • Maintain high ethical standards and integrity in performing the assigned duties
  • Knowledge of hazardous waste management
  • Knowledge of personal protection measures and blood borne pathogens
