About The Position

Under the direction of the Manager, performs laboratory tasks as an aide to the Histotechs using established and approved protocols. Tasks include accessioning specimens, filing blocks, maintaining equipment, and all other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High School Diploma/GED graduate or equivalent
• 1 year of related on-the-job training.
• Professional conduct and interpersonal communication skills with patients, healthcare professionals, laboratory personnel and the public.
• Manual dexterity in the use of equipment.
• Proficient in the command and use of the English language.
• Thorough knowledge of word processing and computer equipment.
• Working knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology as it relates to the job.

Responsibilities

• Accessions Anatomic pathology specimens which includes, verifying requisitions and specimen containers for completeness of patient and client information.
• Manually enter specimens into Copath accurately and timely.
• Produces and correctly affixes labels to cassettes, specimen containers, and requisitions.
• Follows proper procedures with specimen rejection, if the submitted information is incorrect.
• Operates and maintains laboratory equipment and tracks all routine maintenance performed.
• Operates, cleans, and sterilizes laboratory equipment, glassware, and instruments.
• Maintains a clean workstation.
• Stain frozen section slides.
• Stains, cover slips and distributes slides to appropriate departments for further processing.
• Files and retrieves blocks in accordance with State and Federal guidelines
• Order department supplies.
• Assists with co-workers in the department as needed.
• Performs all duties with minimal supervision or assistance.
• Performs other related duties as assigned and necessary.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
