About The Position

Physician Affiliate Group of New York (PAGNY) is adding a Pathologists' Assistant to the group at NYC Health + Hospitals/Metropolitan. Requirements

  • New York State Pathologist Assistant License or New York State Limited Pathologist Assistant License required.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience performing activities associated with the processing of tissues received from surgical procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Perform daily activities associated with the processing of tissues received from surgical procedures.
  • Responsible for ensuring the correct accessioning of all surgical specimens.
  • Perform gross description and complete dissection of surgical specimens.
  • Collect appropriate specimens for microbiological examination, tumor marker testing, and other specified analyses.
  • Select and submit tissue sections for microscopic examination, including frozen sections and permanent sections for light, electron, and fluorescent microscopy.
  • Photograph appropriate specimens.
  • Maintain orderly storage of surgical and autopsy specimens as well as disposal of specimens.
  • Maintain equipment, adequate supplies, and the cleanliness of the grossing room.
  • Serve as a backup for releasing and viewing deceased individuals in the absence of regular staff.
  • Assist with departmental orientation and training of new hires and students.
