Requirements
- New York State Pathologist Assistant License or New York State Limited Pathologist Assistant License required.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience performing activities associated with the processing of tissues received from surgical procedures.
Responsibilities
- Perform daily activities associated with the processing of tissues received from surgical procedures.
- Responsible for ensuring the correct accessioning of all surgical specimens.
- Perform gross description and complete dissection of surgical specimens.
- Collect appropriate specimens for microbiological examination, tumor marker testing, and other specified analyses.
- Select and submit tissue sections for microscopic examination, including frozen sections and permanent sections for light, electron, and fluorescent microscopy.
- Photograph appropriate specimens.
- Maintain orderly storage of surgical and autopsy specimens as well as disposal of specimens.
- Maintain equipment, adequate supplies, and the cleanliness of the grossing room.
- Serve as a backup for releasing and viewing deceased individuals in the absence of regular staff.
- Assist with departmental orientation and training of new hires and students.
