About The Position

Johnson Health Tech North America is looking for a Patent Litigation & Regulatory Compliance Manager who can help protect the ideas behind products that help people live healthier lives. This is a unique opportunity for a patent attorney who enjoys the strategy of litigation, the precision of prosecution, and the collaboration of working directly with engineers, product teams, and global business partners. This role takes a leadership role in protecting and defending the company’s intellectual property. The Patent Litigation & Regulatory Compliance Manager will lead patent litigation and patent prosecution efforts, conduct patent searches, evaluate infringement matters, and support patent applications with the U.S. Patent Office. After on-the-job training, this role will also participate in industry standards work and serve as a practical resource for regulatory interpretation for Product and R&D teams.

Requirements

• Juris Doctor required.
• Technical undergraduate degree in Engineering or a related field required.
• Active admission to at least one State Bar required; Wisconsin Bar admission preferred.
• Qualified to practice as a Patent Attorney before the USPTO.
• At least two years of patent litigation experience.
• Experience leading patent litigation matters, including Inter Partes Review and other USPTO proceedings, from filing through resolution.
• Ability to read, understand, and interpret patents and patent applications.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work well across diverse teams and stakeholder groups.
• Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally.

Nice To Haves

• Regulatory compliance experience and the ability to interpret ambiguous regulatory standards are a plus.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage patent litigation matters, including representing Johnson in court and drafting briefs and other litigation documents.
• Direct litigation and USPTO proceedings, including Inter Partes Review, while working with outside counsel when needed.
• Evaluate infringement claims against and by Johnson and recommend defense or enforcement strategies.
• Conduct patent searches and create or submit patent applications to help protect product innovations.
• Partner with design engineers to support novel, non-obvious designs and protect prototypes and inventions before public showings.
• Serve as a liaison between JHTNA R&D teams and the global Intellectual Property team at JHT headquarters in Taiwan.
• Participate in the creation and improvement of industry consensus standards after on-the-job training.
• Translate regulatory standards into practical guidance for Product and R&D teams.
