About The Position

Fenwick is excited to offer an opportunity in our Intellectual Property (IP) department for a Patent Intern. This role will provide hands-on exposure to patent operations and work closely with multiple teams to support day-to-day processes and special projects. This internship can be based in any of our California (Silicon Valley, San Francisco, Santa Monica) or Seattle, Washington offices and will be hybrid, requiring at least one day onsite per week depending on availability and business needs. This is a non-exempt, full-time role, and is expected to run through summer 2026.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a college degree program
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • Interest in patent law, intellectual property, or legal operations
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook); experience with docketing systems is a plus
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Provide support across all departments within the patent group
  • Prepare and print client correspondence for distribution, including physical copies of letters patent maintained in the SVC office
  • Assist with data cleanup and maintenance in Patricia (patent docketing system), including inventor name records and other system updates
  • Review and complete Patricia tasks, such as USPTO status checks and preparation of examiner interview agendas
  • Review, process, and track patent vendor invoices for accuracy and completeness
  • Upload continuation assignments to the USPTO Assignment Center for recordation
  • Save and appropriately profile foreign correspondence in firm systems
