Requirements

  • Active USPTO Patent Bar registration in good standing.
  • Minimum 4 years of patent prosecution experience post-registration.
  • Minimum 50 patent applications drafted, prosecuted, or substantively responded to in formulation, drug delivery, supplement, or food-science domains.
  • Strong technical degree in Chemical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Pharmacy, Food Science, or Chemistry.
  • Demonstrated experience drafting and defending enablement positions on range claims.
  • Ability to operate without attorney supervision.
  • Comfort with AI-augmented patent drafting workflows.
  • Comfort working in a small in-house team rather than a large-firm partnership track.

Nice To Haves

  • MS or PhD strongly preferred.
  • Prior in-house experience at Eli Lilly, Pfizer, Merck, or comparable pharma or CPG formulation IP group.
  • Prior patent-agent track experience at Finnegan, Fish & Richardson, Knobbe Martens, or Sterne Kessler.
  • Direct experience with microencapsulation, controlled-release, or bioavailability-enhancement patenting.
  • Working knowledge of FTC supplement-claims adjacency.
  • Hands-on experience with AI-based drafting tools in a production prosecution setting.

Responsibilities

  • Review and redline AI-drafted patent applications in the supplement delivery domain.
  • File provisionals, non-provisionals, PCTs, and continuations through USPTO Patent Center.
  • Sign filings under your own USPTO Patent Agent authority.
  • Respond to office actions, including enablement, written description, prior art, amendments, and arguments.
  • Conduct examiner interviews when strategically beneficial.
  • Identify range-support gaps, prior-art blind spots, and missing comparative examples.
  • Feed redlines and rejection patterns back into the Patent Engine.
  • Coordinate with formulation, pharmaceutical science, and inventor teams during disclosure intake.
