About The Position

SOCOTEC’s Environment and Safety team provides expert environmental, health and safety consultancy and compliance services that help organisations manage risk, protect people and safeguard the environment. Our services include environmental monitoring and consultancy, water safety and hygiene solutions with Legionella risk assessments and water system management, fire safety consultancy and inspections, occupational hygiene assessments and workplace exposure monitoring, and specialist advisory support on regulatory and sustainability challenges. As our company continues to expand, we’re growing our teams and have an exciting opportunity for a dedicated Passive Fire Surveyor to join our Environment & Safety division and represent the SOCOTEC badge with pride. In this role, you’ll work across a diverse portfolio of properties within sectors such as education, healthcare, and retail, contributing to projects that help protect people, property, and communities. Requirements

  • A strong understanding of fire door regulations and fire safety standards
  • Attention to detail and a methodical approach to inspections and reporting
  • Good communication skills and the ability to build professional relationships
  • Commitment to ongoing learning and staying current with legislation and best practices
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
  • Strong report writing and record-keeping skills
  • A proactive attitude towards health and safety and promoting compliance

Responsibilities

  • Conducting detailed visual and, where requested, destructive examinations of fire door installations, frames, and associated hardware
  • Verifying labelling and certification of fire door sets/assemblies
  • Checking for visible damage, wear, or modifications that may compromise the door's performance
  • Testing the operation of fire doors, including opening, closing, and latching mechanisms
  • Verifying functionality of self-closing devices and other hardware
  • Ensuring fire doors meet current fire and building code requirements
  • Evaluating the installation of fire doors and their compatibility with supporting wall structures
  • Assessing the suitability and performance of all door components, including hinges, locks, letterplates, spy holes, glazing, intumescent strips & smoke seals, drop-down seals, self-closers, etc
  • Preparing detailed inspection reports documenting findings, non-compliance issues, and recommended corrective actions
  • Maintaining accurate records of all inspections performed
  • Staying updated on current fire safety legislation and standards to ensure all inspections are compliant
  • Building strong relationships with clients and stakeholders to promote awareness of fire door safety requirements
  • Adhering to all safety protocols and regulations while performing inspections
  • Promoting fire safety awareness and best practices to clients
