About The Position

Support early intervention and prevention efforts designed to reduce the escalation of behavioral and disciplinary concerns among middle school students. Provide substance use prevention support, skill-building opportunities, and restorative follow-up services for students referred to the Positive Alternatives to School Suspension (PASS) Program who are unable to fully participate in traditional PASS services during their assigned suspension period. Serve identified middle school campuses through structured small groups, student monitoring, and individualized support focused on improving healthy decision-making, increasing accountability, strengthening coping skills, and reducing repeat disciplinary incidents. Collaborate with school staff and PASS personnel to support student engagement and provide supplemental assistance to PASS Facilitators as needed to ensure continuity of PASS programming and student services.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in counseling, social work, psychology, education, or a related human services field
  • Experience working in a school setting
  • Experience working with high risk youth
  • Valid Driver’s License

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s Degree in counseling, social work, psychology, education, behavioral sciences, criminal justice or related field
  • Training or certification in substance use prevention or intervention
  • Experience delivering structured social emotional learning or evidence-based behavioral curricula (DBT preferred)
  • Experience in alternative education or school-based intervention programs
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) proficiency

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Prevention Coordinator, PASS staff, counselors, administrators, district staff, and campus personnel to identify and serve middle school students referred for prevention groups and provide school-based intervention services for referred students, including students referred to PASS who did not attend
  • Organize and facilitate structured small-group and individualized intervention sessions across assigned campuses
  • Facilitate LifeSkills, prevention, and intervention curriculum focused on emotional regulation, decision-making, coping skills, accountability, conflict resolution, refusal skills, substance use prevention, and healthy replacement behaviors
  • Adapt intervention strategies and curriculum delivery based on student age, developmental needs, and referral concerns
  • Implement program expectations and district policies consistently to maintain fidelity of curriculum and program practices
  • Communicate appropriately with school personnel regarding student participation, concerns, and progress while maintaining confidentiality requirements
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of attendance, participation, interventions, follow-up services, student progress, and required program data, including pre- and post-intervention outcomes
  • Demonstrate professional responsibility through consistent punctuality, preparedness, organization, and adherence to assigned schedules and timelines
  • Provide assistance with PASS programming as needed, including student supervision, group facilitation, and intervention support when outreach schedules allow or when PASS student volume requires additional support
  • Travel between assigned school campuses are required
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor
