About The Position
We are sharing a specialised part-time consulting opportunity for Pashto-speaking music professionals with formal musical training or practical experience in performance, composition, transcription, audio engineering, or music education. This role supports a pilot initiative focused on evaluating and transcribing Pashto-language music for generative audio systems. Selected professionals will transcribe melodies by ear, identify core musical characteristics, and review sung lyrics with close attention to pitch, rhythm, pronunciation, accents, and less-clear vocal delivery.
Requirements
- Formal musical training or several years of relevant professional experience
- Experience as a musician, composer, arranger, transcriber, audio engineer, or music teacher
- Strong ability to recognise and reproduce melody, pitch, and rhythm by ear
- Practical understanding of key signatures, tempo, time signatures, and musical notation
- Native or near-native fluency in Pashto
- Ability to interpret sung lyrics across varied accents and less-clear vocal delivery
- Strong attention to detail and reliable independent working habits
- Availability to contribute approximately 2–5 hours per week during the pilot phase
Nice To Haves
- Experience transcribing music professionally or academically
- Background in Pashto music, regional musical traditions, or Pashto-language songwriting
- Familiarity with notation software, digital audio workstations, or transcription tools
- Experience working with vocal recordings, lyric sheets, or multilingual music content
- Strong relative pitch or advanced ear-training skills
- Previous involvement in generative music, audio evaluation, structured annotation, or training-data review
- Ability to analyse music across multiple genres and performance styles
Responsibilities
- Transcribe melodies by ear with accurate pitch and rhythmic notation
- Identify melodic contours, repeated phrases, intervals, and structural patterns
- Review difficult or unclear passages and document the most musically plausible interpretation
- Maintain consistent transcription standards across varied recordings and musical styles
- Identify key, tempo, time signature, and rhythmic structure
- Assess melody, harmony, phrasing, arrangement, and overall musical coherence
- Recognise performance characteristics and stylistic features within each recording
- Explain analytical decisions clearly using appropriate musical terminology
- Transcribe and review sung lyrics in Pashto
- Interpret lyrics delivered with different accents, vocal styles, and levels of clarity
- Identify pronunciation, wording, phrasing, or alignment issues between lyrics and melody
- Apply strong Pashto fluency and cultural understanding throughout the evaluation process
- Review music-related outputs for accuracy, completeness, and consistency
- Identify errors involving pitch, rhythm, tempo, structure, or lyric interpretation
- Provide clear written feedback supporting each evaluation decision
- Follow project guidelines and incorporate calibration feedback across assignments
