About The Position

Make a Real Impact as a Participant Support Specialist (Adult Emergency Shelter) at Families in Transition. We are on a mission to prevent and break the cycle of homelessness by providing dignified housing, innovative solutions, and compassionate care. We are looking for dedicated, empathetic, and proactive Participant Support Specialists to be the heartbeat of our adult emergency shelter. This role ensures the daily operations of the shelter run smoothly and residents feel safe, creating a sanctuary for vulnerable adults.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years old and authorized to work in the US.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Willingness to work early mornings, evenings, and weekends (based on shift choice).
  • A background check is required, post-job offer.
  • A compassionate, professional demeanor and a calm head under pressure.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • An understanding of housing safety concerns.

Nice To Haves

  • An Associate's or Bachelor's Degree.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise resident activities, de-escalate behavioral issues, and keep the environment safe, clean, and secure through light housekeeping and maintenance.
  • Welcome new residents, assign beds, explain program rules, monitor supplies, and maintain accurate daily logs/incident reports.
  • Provide vital "awake" shift coverage and maintain strict grounds security to protect residents and fellow teammates.
  • Contribute direct feedback on shelter policies to help continuously improve services.
