About The Position

The Atlanta Hawks are a professional basketball team and state-of-the-art arena/entertainment venue focused on creating memorable experiences through live sports, concerts, comedy shows, and family events. The Atlanta Hawks are looking for talented coaches to provide a positive, unique, and memorable experience for youth in metro-Atlanta. The mission is to deliver the ultimate basketball summer camp and community court tour experience for boys and girls aged 7-16 of all skill levels. Coaches should be passionate about developing athletes both on and off the court, highly engaging, positive, motivated, flexible, driven, and good team players, bringing high energy daily. This is a seasonal (summer) part-time position, with employment ending at the close of summer activations. It is not a guaranteed weekly work position, but aims to provide at least 4 weeks of work during the summer based on the events schedule. All events are subject to change in date, time, staffing, and venue.

Requirements

  • Passion for developing youth basketball players in a positive, fun and constructive way
  • Team-oriented, flexible, positive, proactive, reliable, accountable
  • Operates with a ‘no-job-too-small’ mindset
  • Coachable, punctual, willing to bring new ideas to the camps
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience playing and/or coaching youth basketball
  • Provide own transportation to locations throughout greater Atlanta
  • Must be able to attend Mandatory Trainings and orientations as well as team building workshops
  • Must be able to pass and complete SafeSport certification (training course will be provided by Hawks upon position offer)
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 10 pounds and work on your feet
  • Must be comfortable working in groups of people and have experience public speaking
  • Must be organized, punctual, responsive and pay attention to detail
  • Must be able to commit to working at least 4 full weeks camp throughout June and July (8:00-3:30pm, Monday-Friday)
  • CANNOT be affiliated with a Boys AAU Program for ages 14-18; no contact with top 100 prospects (NBA RULE)
  • CANNOT work with draft ineligible prospects (EX: international players, top 100 high school player in their class)

Nice To Haves

  • Undergraduate degree
  • Experience coaching kids ages 7-16
  • Experience interfacing with parents and administrators in a customer service capacity
  • Prior experience working basketball camps
  • Transport basketball equipment to and from events utilizing the marketing vehicle fleet. (Valid driver’s license required)

Responsibilities

  • Bring energy and outgoing spirit to daily activities for youth participants
  • Demonstrate and communicate Hawks values and principles to youth participants: leadership, teamwork, compassion, empathy, respect, hard work and having fun
  • Perform on-court basketball instruction at basketball camps and clinics hosted by the Atlanta Hawks Basketball Academy
  • Lead basketball skills, drills, and competitions for kids and players of all abilities ages 7-16
  • Maintain a high level of professionalism while providing outstanding customer service to youth participants, parents, talent, facility directors, corporate partners, vendors, etc.
  • Work professionally with Hawks and NBA Staff, Players and Alumni to create memorable experiences for our guests at events
  • Assist with load-ins and load-outs for events
  • Mandatory attendance at orientations, trainings and team building workshops prior to summer camp season (Late May)
  • Create and maintain a positive, inclusive, safe and fun playing environment with an emphasis on holistic player development for all guests
  • Ensure a safe and risk-free environment for campers, parents and other coaches
  • Manage campers throughout the week while communicating with Lead Coach and Commissioners on games, competitions and drills as needed
