Part-Time Teacher/Tutor
About The Position
GradePower Learning Lakeland is seeking passionate part-time teacher-tutors for their learning center. This role is ideal for individuals who enjoy working with young students, teaching language and math, and helping them build skills. The position involves working with the Homeschool Day Academy (9:00 am - 12:00 pm) and/or tutoring core subjects and SAT/ACT prep in the afternoon. Teacher-Tutors benefit from pre-planned lessons, no extensive lesson planning required, and direct communication with parents handled by administration. Comprehensive training in GradePower's proprietary methods will be provided.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or currently enrolled in college/university required
- Upper division math and science expertise and who scored well on the SAT/ACT will be trained to coach SAT/ACT Prep program (+$3 per hour)
- Must be able to commute to the Lakeland location
- Vulnerable sector screening is mandatory
- Some experience teaching/tutoring at a first to 12th grade (or equivalent) level is preferred
- Strong English written and oral communication skills and ability to guide students' understanding
- Ability to multitask and balance working with up to six students at a time
- Must be reliable
Nice To Haves
- Passionate about puns, excited by equations, love books, eager to help students succeed in all subjects
- Burnt out on "traditional" education
- Teaching experience and/or certification an asset
- SAT/ACT tutoring experience an asset
- Commitment until the end of the term in December is preferred
- Continuing through the full academic year is even better
Responsibilities
- Teaching up to 6 students at a time at different levels
- Teaching is in-person
- Following the GradePower Learning methodologies and philosophies
- Filling in post-lesson notes
- Completing daily student communication updates
- Maintaining a friendly and professional manner at all times
- Helping students develop their self-confidence and self-esteem
