About The Position

The Part-Time Student Program is primarily designed to augment the Company’s regular full-time staff and is for students who work in parallel to their school schedule YEAR-ROUND. This position is for students pursuing a degree in a mechanical engineering discipline and will provide divisional Dimensional Management support to drive manufacturing and design improvements for fabricated structures. The role involves proposing inspection strategies, collaborating with Metrology to generate inspection programs, coordinating part inspection, analyzing data, and presenting proposals to gain alignment. The student will also collaborate with design engineering to complete necessary drawing updates.

Requirements

  • Must be registered as a full-time student at an (a U.S./local) accredited college/university.
  • Graduation date of (May 2027) or later.
  • Cumulative GPA of 2.8 (3.0 for Accounting/Finance) or above.
  • Available to work during the academic year (16–20 hours/week within business hours of 6 AM to 4 PM).
  • Available to work during the summer semester (35–40 hours/week within business hours of 6 AM to 4 PM).
  • Must be able to commute to the work location in Dubuque, Iowa on a daily basis year-round.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older to apply.

Nice To Haves

  • Ideally pursuing a degree in a mechanical engineering discipline; others may apply.
  • Familiarity with CAD modeling tools.
  • Willingness to build new working relationships and collaborate cross-functionally in factory and office environments.
  • Basic understanding or interest in design for manufacturability and fabrication processes (welding, machining).
  • Basic understanding or interest in metrology.
  • Candidates should be self directed learners who take initiative and are motivated to independently seek out new knowledge and skills.
  • Candidates should also demonstrate project management skills, with the ability to plan, prioritize, and drive multiple workstreams to completion.

Responsibilities

  • Provide divisional Dimensional Management support to drive manufacturing and design improvements for fabricated structures.
  • Propose inspection strategies using fabrication tooling interactions with structures.
  • Collaborate with Metrology to generate inspection program for manufacturing.
  • Coordinate part inspection, analyze the data, comparing current production with the proposal.
  • Present proposals to product group’s manufacturing and quality teams to gain alignment.
  • Collaborate with design engineering to complete necessary drawing updates.
