About The Position

Cook Memorial Public Library District is seeking two detail-oriented and amiable individuals with flexible schedules to shelve materials at both Aspen Drive Library in Vernon Hills and Cook Park Library in Libertyville. These are permanent, year-round positions. AVAILABLE SCHEDULES: Schedule #1 averaging 12 hours a week. Schedule #2 averaging 15 hours a week. Flexibility in filling additional shifts desirable. Schedule #1: Mondays 1-5pm, Tuesdays 9am-1pm. On a 4-week rotation: Week 1: Saturday 8am-12pm, Week 2: Saturday 8am-12pm, Week 4: Sunday 9am-1pm. Schedule #2: Mondays 12-4pm, Tuesdays 1-5pm, Thursdays 1-5pm. On a 4-week rotation: Week 3: Saturday 1-5pm, Week 4: Sunday 9am-1pm.

Requirements

• High school diploma
• Detail-oriented and good organizational skills
• Familiarity with Dewey Decimal System
• Ability to alphabetize and place items in call number order
• Basic computer skills
• Strength to move library materials, bend, stoop, kneel, and reach shelves of various heights
• Standing for extended lengths of time (3 to 5 hours)
• Read small fonts and recognize colored labels
• Must be able to work at both Cook Park and Aspen Drive Libraries

Responsibilities

• Sort and load materials onto carts and shelve in proper location
• Use computer to print lists of requested items
• Retrieve items to fill holds
• Shift collections as needed
• Shelf read, ensuring materials are in correct order
