About The Position

The Part-Time Secondary Physics Teacher will inspire students to develop a deep understanding and appreciation of Physics through inquiry, critical thinking, scientific investigation, and authentic problem-solving. The role involves cultivating a classroom environment where every student feels known, valued, supported, and challenged, while developing the knowledge, skills, and confidence necessary for success beyond high school. The teacher will encourage curiosity, innovation, collaboration, and perseverance, helping students connect scientific principles to engineering, technology, and the world around them. Establishing positive, collaborative relationships with students, families, colleagues, and the greater South Fayette community is also a key aspect of the role.

Requirements

Valid Pennsylvania teaching certificate
Secondary certification in Physics
3.0 or higher QPA
Proof of ongoing professional or educational experience
Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
Computer literacy

Responsibilities

Plans and delivers engaging, standards-aligned Physics instruction that promotes scientific inquiry, critical thinking, collaboration, and real-world problem solving while utilizing the approved curriculum adopted by the South Fayette Township School District.
Instructs students in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.
Plans and facilitates engaging instructional experiences including laboratory investigations, demonstrations, engineering design challenges, collaborative learning, and student-centered scientific inquiry.
Demonstrates scientific concepts by use of scientific apparatus, experiments, and standard or teacher-prepared charts, sketches, and other instructional aids, including the use of the computer.
Differentiates instruction and assessment to meet the academic, social, and emotional needs of diverse learners while providing multiple pathways for student success.
Instructs pupils in proper use, care, and safe handling of chemicals and science equipment.
Provides for safe storage and proper use of materials, equipment, and tools. Makes minor adjustments and requests repairs to equipment as required.
Establishes a safe, respectful, inclusive, and engaging classroom culture that promotes student responsibility, collaboration, curiosity, and high expectations for learning.
Designs learning activities that will relate Physics, and science to the physical world.
Selects and requisitions books, instructional aids, science equipment, chemicals, and supplies appropriate to the interest and maturity level of students; maintains required inventory records.
Develops engaging lessons and instructional materials that emphasize inquiry, discovery, collaboration, and authentic laboratory learning.
Translates lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction.
Encourages students to think critically, communicate effectively, solve complex problems, and demonstrate creativity and innovation.
Assists students in selection and development of individual research projects.
Collaborates with colleagues and administration to support STEM initiatives, community partnerships, student showcases, and school-wide learning opportunities.
Collaborates with counselors, special education staff, administrators, and families to identify and support the academic, behavioral, social, and emotional needs of students.
Evaluates students' progress in scientific knowledge and skills as well as social growth, keeps appropriate and accurate records, and prepares progress reports.
Communicates with parents through conferences and other means to discuss individual student progress and interprets contemporary methods of teaching science for parents.
Supervises students in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day.
Works with students and other classroom teachers in coordinating entries in essay contests and other enrichment activities.
Creates an engaging learning environment that promotes student curiosity, collaboration, and scientific thinking through effective classroom organization and instructional design.
Administers or monitors group tests and/or standardized tests in accordance with the district's testing program.
Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs.
Participates actively in curriculum development, Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), faculty committees, school improvement initiatives, and student activities that support the mission of South Fayette High School.
Maintains timely, professional communication with students, families, colleagues, and administrators.
Demonstrates a commitment to continuous professional growth through district professional learning, collaboration, and self-directed learning opportunities.
Demonstrates proficiency in instructional technology and utilizes district-approved digital tools to support communication, collaboration, instruction, and productivity.
Utilizes the district's student information system, learning management system, and other instructional technologies to maintain accurate student records and support learning.
Demonstrates flexibility and a willingness to implement innovative instructional practices, emerging technologies, and alternative learning environments as appropriate.
Utilizes the district learning management system and instructional technologies to enhance student engagement, communication, collaboration, and personalized learning.
