About The Position

Pickering Creek Audubon Center seeks a part-time, seasonal School-Year Educator to assist in delivering its successful environmental education programs. The School-Year Educator will serve as integral to the education team, reporting to the center’s Director of Education, and working closely with all center staff. They will maintain positive and friendly working relationships with the general public, volunteers, and local/regional community organizations and school groups. This is a part-time, seasonal position beginning September 9, 2026 through May 26, 2027, with a winter break from early December 2026 through February/March 2027. Some weekends and evenings are required. Salary: $17/hour, up to a 28-hour work week during busiest field seasons.

Requirements

• At least one year of experience teaching or working with children in a field-based environment
• An undergraduate degree in biology, education, environmental education, environmental science or a related field, or has relevant work experience
• Is committed to the conservation of birds, other wildlife and habitats
• Possesses excellent interpersonal, written and communication skills
• Is an enthusiastic team player
• Maintains a professional, friendly manner
• Is self-motivated, with the ability to work with minimal supervision

Nice To Haves

• Enjoys hiking, birding, ponding, fishing, seining, planting and leading games for children of all ages.
• Some level of Spanish proficiency a plus

Responsibilities

• Lead field-based, classroom and virtual environmental education programs including on Pickering Creek’s 450 acres, at schools, partnering sites, and online through virtual meeting platforms for pre-K, elementary, middle and high school students
• Serve as a role model naturalist and environmental steward for students, teachers, community and public audiences
• Work closely with other staff to plan and implement programs
• Collaborate with other staff to prepare and lead public, community and volunteer programs for families, adults and youth
• Assist with the care of buildings and grounds including weekly trail and habitat maintenance
• Provide care for program animals including feeding and animal tank maintenance
• Contribute to Center’s public communications including social media and a weekly email digest
