About The Position

Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) is seeking a Part-Time Psychiatrist to join the Detwiller Pavilion at UBC Hospital. This role involves evaluating, diagnosing, and treating patients with complex, treatment-resistant psychosis, including schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, bipolar disorder, and other related conditions. The psychiatrist will be an integral part of a collaborative interdisciplinary team, providing specialized treatment and serving as a resource for complex mental disorders and symptom management, with a strong emphasis on psychopharmacology. Opportunities for involvement in innovative treatment interventions, training and education of medical students and allied health professionals, and participation in research are available. All physicians working in Vancouver Acute are required to participate in on-call services.

Requirements

• Medical Degree and eligibility for or active licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia.
• Specialist qualifications in Psychiatry from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or the equivalent.
• Eligibility for a clinical faculty appointment with the UBC Faculty of Medicine.
• Demonstrated ability working as a member of an interdisciplinary mental health team.
• Familiarity with the principles of Recovery and Psychosocial Rehabilitation in Mental Health.
• A commitment to participate in new methods in health improvement and care delivery.
• Experience working with refractory psychosis population.
• Must meet the credentialing requirements of Vancouver Coastal Health.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate, diagnose, and provide specialized treatment for patients with complex, treatment-resistant psychosis.
• Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team including physicians, nurses, social workers, occupational therapists, psychologists, and others.
• Serve as a resource to the interdisciplinary team in managing complex mental disorders and symptom management.
• Utilize a strong knowledge base in psychopharmacology.
• Participate in the training and education of medical students, residents, and other allied health professionals.
• Participate in academic activities and potentially research.
• Participate in on-call service as required for Vancouver Acute.
