About The Position

The City of Anaheim Community Services Department is seeking qualified Part Time Parks Maintenance Workers (Part Time Laborers) for the maintenance and janitorial upkeep of our City parks and yards. The Parks Maintenance Worker is the front line to our community to ensure that our citizens and visitors have a pleasant and memorable experience. While the Parks Maintenance Worker may perform any of the duties listed below in the essential functions section, the primary functions are: Custodial/janitorial duties of the park public restrooms, Care and delivery of shade trees, Season fire clearance providing preventative landscape maintenance, and TreePower program which includes upkeep of a city yard and caring for and delivering trees. As the Parks Maintenance Worker performs duties throughout the City and drives a City vehicle, applicants must have a valid driver license in good standing. Ideal candidates will have prior work experience in custodial/janitorial, parks/grounds maintenance, tree delivery, and/or preventative fire clearance. Parks play a critical role in the overall quality of life for Anaheim residents and visitors. The Community Services Department's Parks Division is responsible for the scheduling, maintenance and ongoing improvement of over 800 acres that make up the 68 parks in Anaheim. Anaheim also has several "special use parks," providing a range of activities from tennis courts and skate parks to hiking trails and nature preserves. The mission of the Parks Division within the Community Services Department is to enrich the quality of life of individuals, families, and the community by providing excellent parks, trails, and recreational facilities through outstanding customer service, sustainable environmental practices, and strong employee development and commitment.

Requirements

  • Perform basic construction, modification, maintenance repair and/or custodial work
  • Understand and follow instructions
  • Learn and apply applicable safety regulations
  • Operate a vehicle
  • Operate warehouse equipment, including a forklift
  • Perform strenuous manual labor at a variety of work sites
  • Operate job related power equipment

  • Possession of a valid Class C California Driver’s License with satisfactory driving record, by date of appointment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of manual labor activities in support of one or more maintenance services programs including facilities, streets, sidewalks, parks, and landscaping.
  • Trim shrubs and prune small trees and bushes; operate chipper, brush cutters, chain saws and related equipment.
  • Remove and install signs; remove non-hazardous spills and illegally dumped items and debris; service trash bins, pressure wash sidewalks and perform weed abatement and landscaping duties in City right-of-way, slopes, and hillsides.
  • Clear brush, shrubs, trees and other debris on city streets, alleyways, parks, trails, wildland areas, and sidewalks that inhibit the passage of persons or vehicles.
  • Perform litter and debris abatement, including removal of homeless debris/camps as needed; maintain City transfer sites.
  • Set-up traffic safety devices and barricades to control traffic around work sites and special events and ensure safe conditions for the general public and city workers.
  • Observe safe work methods, policies and procedures and make appropriate use of related safety equipment as required.
  • Drive city vehicle between various work sites; maintain vehicle, storage sites, and other work areas in a clean and orderly condition and ensure equipment is secured at the close of the workday.
  • Prepare equipment and supplies needed and load trucks; operate small equipment including weed eaters, brush cutting tractors, tractors, and related equipment; clean, maintain, and secure tools and equipment.
  • Assist with answering inquiries and concerns from the public.
  • Operate warehouse equipment, including forklift and hand truck.
  • Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
  • Clean, disinfect, and stock restrooms in city park facilities; clean parks of litter and debris.
  • Maintain and repair playground equipment, picnic tables and shelters, signs, fences and barbeques; maintain, paint, and clean park equipment and amenities, including bleachers, ball courts, drinking fountains, pools, fountains, and ponds.
  • Assist with pesticide applications, landscape/irrigation installation projects, planting projects, turf renovation projects, vegetation management sport field lay-outs and lining as needed.
