About The Position

Job Summary: Guard, patrol, and monitor assigned areas at the Stark Cultural Venues and Stark Foundation, including interior and exterior premises, to (1) protect and preserve people and property, including collections; (2) deter and prevent illegal, prohibited or inappropriate activities or conduct; (3) enforce rules and regulations; and (4) respond effectively and safely to emergency situations on Foundation property. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Provide visual deterrent to illicit, illegal, or inappropriate activities (including vandalism and theft) through on-site presence and patrols. Remain vigilant at all times and be prepared to react immediately and effectively to situations and circumstances that may occur. Protect people and property, respond effectively and safely to emergencies, and maintain order. Ensure compliance by employees, visitors, vendors and other third parties with rules, regulations, and related policies and procedures to maintain order at assigned venue. Protect Stark Foundation collections, equipment, property and plantings against unauthorized handling, touching, or other contact by persons, or other exposure risks. Perform daily visual inspections of the interior and exterior of assigned venue to ensure that no unauthorized changes or tampering occurs; report any discrepancies to lead officer or security management. Monitor and authorize entrance and departure of employees, visitors, vendors and other persons through container search, recordkeeping, and related security measures to guard against theft and maintain security of premises. Observe activities and conduct of all persons in and around assigned property; watch for, recognize, and respond to security risks, thefts and unusual happenings; know how to prevent or handle such situations and/or to take appropriate responsive action to inappropriate or illicit behavior; and be mentally and physically at all times to react, respond or otherwise address issues or situations. Monitor, note, report and investigate suspicious or problematic persons and situations, safety hazards, potential threats, and unusual activities anywhere around assigned venue. Monitor video surveillance and alarm systems for assigned venue, as assigned; answer alarms and investigate disturbances; communicate as necessary with other security officers Notify Lead and security management and communicate as appropriate with Base Security; call and direct emergency responders in emergency. Respond briskly to emergency or urgent situations on or about assigned venue; remain calm while rendering aid to persons requiring first aid and Basic Life Support (BLS); complete incident reports as applicable. Maintain a level of physical fitness and mental preparedness that meets or exceeds the minimum fit-for-duty requirements to effectively and safely fulfill the physical and psychological requirements mandated for a Stark Foundation security officer. Understand and comply with Foundation policy and procedures, including but not limited to provisions in the Employee Handbook as well as security department protocol. Recommend measures for improving work procedures and worker performance to increase service quality, improve job safety, and enhance protection of people and property. Provide other security measures and related services as may be directed by Lead or Security Management. Maintain proficiency with tools and equipment required for successful performance of all duties. Other duties as may be assigned from time to time. Notify Base S and Lead or Security Management immediately of changes to properties or objects, suspicious persons or happenings, or emergencies on or about Stark Foundation properties. Learn, understand and comply with Foundation procedures and policies as stated in the Employee Handbook; learn, understand and follow specific Security Handbook procedures and Use of Force guidelines, as amended. Observe scheduled work hours; must be able to work a schedule determined by security department coverage needs that may include weekends, holidays, after hours, or other special events. Remain vigilant at all times and be prepared to react immediately and effectively to a security breach despite monotonous routine. Present professional appearance at all times: wear complete, neat pressed uniform, shirt tucked in at all times; hair clean and trimmed; shoes shined; personal hygiene maintained; good posture and professional demeanor. Maintain a level of physical fitness (including cardiopulmonary wellness) and mental preparedness that meets or exceeds the minimum fit-for-duty requirements to effectively and safely fulfill the physical and cognitive requirements of a Stark Foundation security officer. Requirements

  • Minimum age (21 years of age) as set by the Texas Private Security Bureau for Non-Commissioned Security Officer.
  • High school graduate or has passed a general education development (GED) test indicating high school graduation level.
  • Level 2 Texas Non-Commissioned Security Officer as licensed by Texas Department of Public Safety Private Security Bureau
  • A current driver's license and good driving record
  • First Aid, CPR and AED Defibrillator certification.
  • Security Officers at all times must have and maintain physical fitness (including cardiopulmonary wellness and mental preparedness) that meets or exceeds minimum fit-for-duty requirements to effectively and safely fulfill the physical and cognitive requirements of the job.
  • Pass the fit-for-duty test at each assessment and perform security duties that include but are not limited to standing for extended periods of time on hard surfaces; sitting for an extended period of time while monitoring cameras and/or entrances, or while driving; patrolling on foot, automatic cart, scooter, or by vehicle; walking on uneven surfaces; ascending and descending multiple flights of stairs; ability to quickly respond to an emergency; ability to lift or carry up to 50 pounds; endurance during exertion of efforts; using hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools or controls, the ability to see, with or without corrective measures, to spot and identify security problems, and to observe scenes, vehicles and individuals at close and distant range; the ability to hear, with or without corrective measures, to identify security problems and determine response; ability to adjust focus; ability to monitor video surveillance and alarm systems.
  • The employee must be fit for duty based on the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI-2), which will be administered by an independent consultant.
  • The work is usually routine in nature, but the officer must be able to maintain constant state of vigilance and preparedness in a repetitive/tedious/isolated environment; be constantly alert for threats to the collection, premises, or employees, volunteers, or visitors.
  • The officer must have an ability to quickly analyze complex information in emergency situation and make appropriate decisions; ability to exercise good judgment and common sense based on facts presented; ability to follow direction; ability to comply with Foundation procedures to act appropriately to protect people and property; ability to take charge in emergency situation and direct others to safety.
  • Must possess the ability to clearly communicate required behavior in a firm manner; ability to identify and dissuade inappropriate and/or noncompliant behavior in clear, but civil words, tone and mannerisms.
  • Ability to prepare comprehensive written reports detailing incidents, outlining observations and activities, or documenting violations or suspicious behavior.
