Dauphin County Parks and Recreation is currently accepting applications for the position of Part Time Maintenance Worker II. The starting rate for this position is $16.32 per hour. Weekends are required. The objective of the employee in this role is to perform general maintenance duties and assist with repairs, constructions and recreational/education programs within the County Parks System's buildings and grounds. The employee in this role is responsible for but not limited to performing the following essential functions listed below. OVERALL OBJECTIVE OF JOB: To perform general maintenance duties and assist with repairs, constructions and recreational/education programs within the County Parks System's buildings and grounds. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF JOB: Provides maintenance, minor repair duties, and painting required on various buildings, furniture, vehicles, equipment, and grounds. Maintains, repairs, and operates equipment and vehicles used for grounds and building maintenance, repairs, and construction. Assists in landscape installations and building/furnishings construction and fabrication. Mows and trims vegetation and removes fallen leaves. Provides a safe environment for public park users. Removes snow and ice from walks, driveways, parking areas and lanes. Performs custodial duties at park restrooms, pavilions, and other buildings/grounds. Supports Parks & Recreation programs and special events by providing custodial support as needed, and working a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends, as necessary. OTHER DUTIES OF JOB: Assists with setting up and cleaning for special events and programs. Performs errands as needed. Attends in-service training, as directed. Performs other job-related duties as required. SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Receives moderate instruction and little supervision from Supervisor or Director in regard to daily work duties and special work projects. SUPERVISION GIVEN: None. WORKING CONDITIONS: Works in a variety of indoor and outdoor surroundings of workspace, lighting, ventilation and temperatures. Works with average indoor and outdoor exposure to noise, stress and disruptions. Normal indoor exposure to dust/dirt. Subject to periodically working in various outdoor elements, depending on nature of job assignments. Travels occasionally to perform County assignments. Subject to periodic call-in work. Operates hand tools, chain saw, lawn mower and heavy equipment. PHYSICAL/MENTAL CONDITIONS: Must possess ability to record, convey and present information, explain procedures and follow instructions. Must be able to stand, walk and crawl intermittently for long periods throughout the workday, with occasional sitting, bending, twisting, stooping, climbing, carrying, pushing, pulling, reaching, grasping and driving, as necessary, to carry out duties of job. Dexterity requirements range from simple to coordinated movements of fingers/hands; feet/legs; torso as necessary to carry out duties of job. Medium work, with frequent lifting/carrying of objects weighing from 50 pounds; occasionally needs to lift heavier objects. Occasionally must be able to move frequently throughout the work day. Must have average strength and physical endurance and ability to lift up to 50 pounds if necessary. Must be able to climb a ladder and scaffolding etc. to carry out duties of job. QUALIFICATIONS A. EDUCATION/TRAINING: Graduation from high school or an accredited equivalency program. B.WORK EXPERIENCE: One (1) year of working experience in maintenance or custodial environment.
