About The Position

Under general supervision, assists in ensuring customer satisfaction and safety for employees, members and visitors to DAS REC, New Braunfels Recreation Center aquatic facilities and programs. Develop skills in communication, teamwork, water safety, rescues, and preventing accidents. You'll gain proficiency in life-saving techniques, including CPR and first aid, which can be valuable in any situation. Lifeguarding can be a standout addition to your resume, especially if you're interested in careers in healthcare, public safety, or event management. Requirements

  • Must be fifteen (15) years of age
  • One (1) year customer service/public interaction experience required
  • Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s License
  • Must possess or obtain before beginning work: American Red Cross Lifeguard/First Aid certification, CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer certification and Administering Emergency Oxygen certification.
  • Principles and practices of excellent customer service.
  • Interpreting customer and facility needs and solving customer service and public relations issues.
  • Responding to emergencies and determining corrective actions using available resources.
  • Establishing and maintaining cooperative and effective working relationships with City employees, facility lessees and guests, event sponsors and vendors, and the general public.
  • Effective, clear and concise communication.

Nice To Haves

  • aquatic facility experience preferred
  • American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI) certification is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in ensuring the delivery of high quality and consistent aquatic programs and services to the community.
  • Prepares and assists in maintaining facilities including but not limited to DAS REC, New Braunfels Recreation Center in a safe condition and to meet community needs; coordinated in alignment with the City’s strategic objectives, policies and procedures, and State and Federal laws.
  • Assists in promoting departmental programs and city-wide special event coordination and setup.
  • Opening and closing aquatic area at appropriate times.
  • Conducting and recording water tests enforcing all pool rules.
  • Preventing injuries and minimizing hazardous situations.
  • Providing safety surveillance at all times or when on stand.
  • Handling all injuries, accidents and emergency situations as they arise (contact Pool Manager for any assistance).
  • Instruct various ages in swimming, water safety, and other aquatic programming.
  • Completing assigned cleaning duties.
  • Attending in-service training as scheduled.
  • Maintaining life safety and rescue skills at rescue ready levels over the duration of employment.
  • Completing other duties as assigned.
