About The Position

St. Stephen's and St. Agnes School (SSSAS) of Alexandria, VA is seeking to hire a collaborative and detailed oriented professional to serve as a Lower School Library Instructional Support Specialist beginning in late August 2026. The Library Instructional Support Specialist will support the daily operations of the Lower School Library while fostering a welcoming, organized, and engaging environment for students and faculty. This role blends administrative, organizational, and instructional support responsibilities, ensuring the library functions as a vibrant space for literacy, research, and community connection. All members of the faculty instill our school's mission by helping their students to become responsible, honest, compassionate, respectful citizens. The successful candidate will be required to exercise professional judgment and responsibility in keeping with the expectations of the School's faculty. Requirements

  • A Bachelor's Degree
  • Experience working with children in an educational setting
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Comfort with database systems and basic technology tools
  • The ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively

  • A collaborative, flexible, and proactive approach to supporting a team environment
  • Passion for literacy, books, and supporting young learners

Responsibilities

  • Maintain the organization and inventory of the library collection, including shelving, cataloging, processing new materials and weeding and discarding outdated resources
  • Manage circulation systems, including checking books in and out and assisting students with book selection
  • Maintain accurate records within the library database, including tracking book orders, inventory, and usage
  • Assist with ordering, receiving, and processing new books and materials
  • Ensure the library space is clean, inviting, and conducive to learning
  • Collaborate with teachers to locate and curate resources that support classroom instruction and units of study
  • Assist students in selecting developmentally appropriate books that support their interests and reading growth
  • Partner with the Librarian to support library classes and literacy instruction
  • Help maintain a positive and engaging classroom environment during library lessons
  • Occasionally lead or co-teach classes in the absence of the Librarian or as needed
  • Support student research and inquiry in age-appropriate ways
  • Support the planning and execution of library programs, including author visits and special literacy events
  • Assist in organizing and running the school Book Fair
  • Contribute to initiatives that promote a love of reading and lifelong learning
  • Perform all other duties, as assigned
