About The Position

The McReynolds Lab at Penn State is seeking a motivated and reliable undergraduate researcher to join our team as a part-time lab assistant. This position will support ongoing research focused on understanding redox stress and aging using the model organism Caenorhabditis elegans ( C. elegans ). The successful candidate will contribute to experiments investigating the relationship between redox imbalance, NAD+ metabolism, and lifespan regulation.

Requirements

  • Motivated and reliable undergraduate researcher
  • Ability to follow protocols and work independently under supervision.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work as part of a research team.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience working with C. elegans is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with lifespan, reproductive, or developmental assays in worms.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Interest in molecular biology, genetics, aging, or redox biology.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the maintenance and culturing of C. elegans strains.
  • Perform standardized lifespan and brood size assays.
  • Accurately record and organize experimental data.
  • Help prepare media, plates, and basic lab reagents.
  • Work collaboratively with graduate students and other undergraduates.
  • Attend weekly lab meetings and maintain an organized lab notebook.
