About The Position

The Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) is seeking a Part-Time Lab Assistant to join Dr. Siobhan Brady’s lab in the Department of Plant Biology and Genome Center at the University of California, Davis. The Brady lab investigates how plant root cells respond to environmental stresses and how transcriptional networks regulate plant development. This role is ideal for a motivated undergraduate student to assist with routine plant growth and experimental preparation in the Controlled Environment Facility (CEF). The position requires approximately 7 hours per week and offers an excellent opportunity to gain professional work experience in an academic research setting.

Requirements

A high school diploma or GED is required.
Ability to be dependable, organized, and attentive to detail with good recordkeeping skills.
Comfort with performing hands-on experimental work.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Remaining in a normal seated or standing position for extended periods of time.
Reaching and grasping by extending hand(s) or arm(s).
Dexterity to manipulate objects with fingers, for example using a keyboard.
Communication skills using the spoken word.
Ability to see and hear within normal parameters.
Ability to move about workspace.
Mobility, including the ability to move materials weighing up to 50 pounds (such as bags of sand, a laptop computer, or a tablet).

Nice To Haves

Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in the life sciences (biology, biomedical science, biomedical engineering, etc.) are preferred.
Previous experience with laboratory work, greenhouse work, and/or growing plants is preferred, but not required as training will be provided.
