About The Position

The Faculty of Education and StFX Online invites applications for a Part-time Academic Instructor for the off-campus Certificate in Outdoor Education program. The course, EDUC 405G - Teaching Kayaking in Public Schools, is designed to prepare teachers for flat water kayaking instruction and to promote paddling as a lifelong activity. It covers on-water and dockside safety, environmental hazards, adaptive equipment, skill-based games, on-water risks, and strategies for planning paddling skills for secondary school students. This is a three-credit course.

Requirements

  • PhD or MEd degree.
  • Significant teaching experience in the course area.
  • Public school teaching experience.

Responsibilities

  • Teach EDUC 405G - Teaching Kayaking in Public Schools.
  • Prepare teachers to engage in flat water kayaking instruction.
  • Teach pedagogical approaches to promote paddling as a lifelong activity.
  • Cover on-water and dockside safety, environmental hazards, adaptive equipment, skill-based games, and on-water risks.
  • Develop skills and teaching strategies for planning a progression of paddling skills for students in secondary schools.
