About The Position

Xavier University is seeking applications for a Part-Time Groundskeeper. This is a temporary position working less than 24 hours per week. The role involves operating hand and power tools for grounds maintenance, including cutting grass, trimming trees and shrubs, mulching, weeding, and applying chemicals. It also includes maintaining athletic fields, keeping university grounds clean by picking up debris and operating cleaning equipment, and lifting or moving heavy equipment up to 125 pounds. The position requires adherence to safety procedures and involves working outdoors in various weather conditions with potentially dangerous equipment and chemicals, exposed to dirt, dust, fumes, noise, and elements.

Requirements

• Possession of a valid driver’s license and driving record deemed insurable under the Vehicle Use and Driver Information.
• Proficient in operating hand and power tools.
• High School Diploma or Equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Operate hand and power tools to cut, trim, and edge grass, turf.
• Prune trees and shrubs, trim hedges, mulch, and pull weeds.
• Apply chemicals.
• Maintain athletic fields by dragging, laying out, lining, and painting.
• Keep university grounds clean by picking up papers and other debris.
• Operate a variety of equipment to clean sidewalks, steps, patios, and parking lots.
• Lift or move heavy equipment or material unassisted up to 125 pounds.
• Follow all established safety procedures.
• Work outside in all-weather conditions.
• Work with potentially dangerous equipment and chemicals.
• Be exposed to dirt, dust, fumes, noise, and elements.
