About The Position

The School of American Ballet (SAB), the official training academy of New York City Ballet, seeks a Part-Time Front Desk Attendant to support the daily operations of its vibrant community of over 500 students, ages 6–18. The school also houses more than 60 students in its on-site residence hall. This is a September–July position. Shifts are scheduled during operational hours, approximately 3:30 PM–8:00 PM Monday through Friday and 8:30 AM–4:00 PM on Saturdays. Flexibility to cover additional hours as needed is preferred. Serving as the first point of contact for students, families, and guests, the Front Desk Attendant plays a critical role in delivering exceptional customer service and maintaining a welcoming, safe, and well-organized environment. This fast-paced role requires excellent communication skills, strong attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple tasks independently. This is a part-time, non-exempt position reporting to the Manager of Operations, Executive, and Board Affairs. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis. Interviews will be conducted as qualified candidates are identified. Positions will be filled on a rolling basis.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 21 years of age at the time of employment.
  • Professional experience in an administrative or front-facing role.
  • Friendly, mature, and professional demeanor.
  • Reliable, punctual, and highly organized.
  • Ability to multitask and work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong interest in supporting children and families is essential.
  • Must successfully complete a criminal background check.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with children or in an educational setting preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor lobby activity and elevator access in coordination with the on-site security guard to ensure building safety.
  • Enforce 5th floor access and visitor policies, including check-in procedures, drop-off/pick-up logistics.
  • Manage daily front desk functions: answer and transfer phone calls, respond to email and voicemail, and post student notices as needed.
  • Assist with student attendance: monitor attendance inbox and voicemail, record class attendance in the database, and make follow-up calls to families.
  • Maintain cleanliness and order in the reception area and 5th and 6th floor common spaces; perform closing procedures at the end of evening shifts.
  • Ensure all students are picked up at the end of each evening; follow established protocols for late caregiver arrivals.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Restock supplies daily in staff kitchen, studios, and storage closets.
  • Replenish water cups each day.
  • Distribute mail and packages on a daily basis.
  • Submit work orders as needed and Report facility or equipment issues to the Operations Manager.
  • Support Lost and Found procedures.
  • Conduct regular rounds to monitor student spaces and ensure order and safety.
  • Remain familiar with all Emergency Preparedness procedures, including fire evacuation plans (refer to red "Emergency" binder).
  • Distribute New York City Ballet performance tickets according to school protocols.
