About The Position

Community College of Philadelphia is seeking part-time faculty for the Department of Computer Technologies to teach classes in areas such as Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Cybersecurity, Web and App Development, and Data Science for the 2026-2027 academic year. The department offers degrees and certificates in these fields, aiming to prepare students for careers as IT specialists, software engineers, and computer scientists. Many students transfer to top computing programs or secure employment directly after their studies.

Requirements

• A master’s degree in computer science or a closely related field (e.g., electrical engineering, computer engineering, software engineering, computational science, data science, cybersecurity, or mathematics).
• All degrees must be from a recognized institutional accreditor.
• Ability to deliver required, predefined course elements while drawing from personal knowledge and experiences to engage students.
• Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

Nice To Haves

• At least one year of teaching computer technology at the college level (primary instructor or graduate teaching assistant).
• Experience with at least two of the following programming languages: Python, Java, C/C++, R, or machine code/assembly language.
• Knowledge and/or willingness to teach distance education and web-enhanced courses.
• A flexible schedule to teach classes during the day and/or evening at the main campus and/or Regional Centers.
• Demonstrated experience teaching diverse student populations.
• Demonstrated experience teaching within a community college.
• Bilingual or other language proficiency.

Responsibilities

• Teach computing courses including foundational computer science and programming, cybersecurity, computer hardware, and data science.
• Support students in developing computing skills, professional attitudes, and behaviors for college and workplace success.
• Facilitate student learning, provide effective instruction, and evaluate student learning for all assigned classes.
• Meet all classes and scheduled responsibilities, such as office hours and meetings, at designated times.
• Be available to students via email, phone, or personal conferences, with contact methods and hours communicated through the course syllabus.
• Become expert in curricula and course materials, preparing lectures, hands-on activities, and presentations.
• Assign grades and maintain course and student records in accordance with FERPA regulations, submitting grades by established deadlines.
• Proactively identify and address student problems.
• Maintain and develop curriculum consistent with departmental learning objectives.
• Work with faculty and administrators on program curriculum, standards, and policies, including textbook selection.
• Participate in the intellectual life of the department and the College through committee work.
• Engage in industry-related professional development activities, meetings, and conferences.
• Demonstrate commitment to the College’s Mission, Vision, and Values.
• Actively participate in the academic life of the College, including graduation, recruitment events, and student life activities.
• Create learning opportunities for students inside and outside the classroom, including teaching dual-enrollment high school students.
• Communicate effectively, share vision, focus on people, initiate positive change, value differences, and foster collaboration.
• Establish an inclusive classroom environment, demonstrating understanding and sensitivity to diverse backgrounds.
• Fully participate in the assessment of student learning at all levels.

• Maintain office hours to meet with students outside of the classroom.
