About The Position

The University of Southern Maine’s Psychology Department is seeking part-time instructor applicants for our Spring 2027 semester, beginning January 19, 2027. We are seeking instructors to teach 1 – 2 in person sections of Abnormal Psychology (PSY 233), with the possibility of teaching Introduction to Psychology (PSY 100) and an upper-level elective. Instructors will be responsible for the full delivery and grading of the course. Responsibilities include developing the course, teaching, assessing student performance, and meeting with students as needed. The instructor will be provided with the course learning objectives, program competencies, and suggested topical outline and will be given a previous course syllabus available for reference. The USM Psychology Department offers students a strong foundation in psychological science while providing opportunities to explore the diverse ways psychology contributes to understanding individuals, communities, and society. Faculty are dedicated to creating an engaging and supportive learning environment that emphasizes critical thinking, research, experiential learning, and the application of psychological knowledge.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in Counseling/Counselor Education or Clinical Psychology is required.
• At least one semester previous teaching experience in a psychology department is required.
