About The Position

New York Common Pantry is one of the city’s largest hunger relief organizations, providing food assistance, case management services, senior food provision, nutrition education, and hygiene services. Last year, we served over 11 million meals. Through an array of programs that we offer, we look to establish long-term stability for those we serve. The Part-Time Facilities Associate is responsible for the safe, effective, and economical daily operation of the New York Common Pantry’s building, including the outside perimeter; the building’s mechanical equipment; maintenance of office and common spaces; minor repairs; preventive maintenance work; and remaining on-call to respond to emergency situations before, during, and after normal business hours. The Part-Time Facilities Associate will report to the Facilities Maintenance Coordinator and will be required to report to all New York Common Pantry locations as assigned (East Harlem, Bronx, etc). This is a part-time, non-exempt position scheduled for 28 hours per week.

Requirements

  • A minimum of three years of experience in a building maintenance or housekeeping role.
  • Commitment to helping the communities in need and NYCP’s work and mission.
  • Flexible schedule and able to work evenings and weekends, and handle emergency calls when needed.
  • Knowledgeable in cleaning techniques.
  • Professional organizational and time management skills.
  • Responsible, detail-oriented, and a self-starter.
  • Comfortable working with diverse populations.
  • Multi-task and work in a highly trafficked area.
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain facilities by performing routine cleaning tasks, including sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, dusting surfaces, and keeping shared spaces tidy and organized.
  • Provide restroom care by cleaning and disinfecting sinks, toilets, and showers, and by replenishing soap, paper towels, and other supplies.
  • Removal of trash and emptying wastebaskets and disposing of trash, cardboard, and other waste in accordance with facility procedures.
  • Manage supplies by monitoring inventory and restocking cleaning materials and other essential items.
  • Handle maintenance reporting and minor repairs by identifying and reporting issues such as damaged items or non-functioning equipment to supervisors.
  • Follow all proper cleaning and infection control protocols.
  • Support special events by assisting with setup and cleaning before, during, and after events.
  • Ensure that all doors and locks are in good working order at all times and maintain a list of staff with keys to the entrances of the New York Common Pantry building.
  • Properly handle trash removal, including ensuring compliance with recycling laws.
  • Remain on-call to address emergency situations that occur outside of the position's regular schedule.
  • Attend and participate in weekly scheduled meetings.
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein as directed by the Facilities Maintenance Coordinator.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.
