This position is responsible for managing and operating the kitchen in the absence of the Dietary Supervisor. The cook reports to the Dietary Supervisor and is expected to prepare tasteful meals, follow menus and portion control guides, and prepare special diets accurately. The role also involves maintaining a safe, clean, and sanitary kitchen environment, recording food temperatures, preparing pureed foods, and cooperating with personnel in all departments. Additionally, the cook will assist with serving meals, cleaning the kitchen area and serving carts, reporting resident care concerns, and participating in the training of dietary staff. A key aspect of the role is ensuring the presentation of food is appealing to residents and that cleaning schedules are followed.
