The Michigan Department of Corrections is hiring a Parole Probation Officer. The position may be hybrid for up to 50% of the pay period, though the selected candidate is expected to train in the office for a period that varies according to department training needs. The employee performs work related to offenders, including coaching people under supervision to address their needs and develop skills that support a prosocial lifestyle and public safety. Duties include preparing background reports on offenders convicted in Circuit Court for use in sentencing decisions and supervising people on court-ordered probation or parole from a state correctional facility. The officer manages a caseload that may include sex offenders, people on electronic monitoring such as GPS, gender-specific or mentally ill caseloads, Interstate Compact cases, and other specialized caseloads designated by the Deputy Director of Field Operations. Assignments may also include serving as an embedded agent with a local law enforcement agency, an Institutional Parole Agent, or an Internet Crimes Against Children Agent (ICAC). The employee follows department policies, procedures, Director Office Memorandums, and Guiding Principles. This DART (Drug/Alcohol Test Designated) position involves regular unsupervised access to and direct contact with probationers or parolees. Some Institutional Parole Agent positions may involve regular unsupervised access to and direct contact with prisoners more than 50% of the time. The work requires considerable independent judgment on assignments with significant impact on services or programs.
