The Michigan Department of Corrections is seeking a Parole Probation Officer to work in the Calhoun Probation Office. This position involves coaching offenders to address their needs, learn new skills, and adopt a more prosocial lifestyle, ultimately protecting the public. Responsibilities include preparing background reports for sentencing in Circuit Court and supervising offenders on community supervision through probation or parole. The role requires managing a caseload that may include specialized populations such as sex offenders, those on electronic monitoring (GPS), gender-specific offenders, mentally ill offenders, and those under the Interstate Compact. The officer may also be assigned as an embedded agent with local law enforcement, an Institutional Parole Agent, or an Internet Crimes Against Children Agent. The position requires adherence to departmental policies, procedures, Director Office Memorandums (DOM), and Guiding Principles. This is a DART (Drug/Alcohol Test Designated) position, meaning the incumbent has regular unsupervised access to and direct contact with probationers or parolees. Some Institutional Parole Agent roles may involve more than 50% direct contact with prisoners. The role demands considerable independent judgment with significant impact on services or programs.
