About The Position

Positions in the Parole Officer series perform professional work in the rehabilitation, monitoring, and control of adult inmates who have served time in prison and are to be released as parolees, and parolees who have already been released back into the community under the continued custody of the State and under conditions that permit reincarceration in the event parole requirements are violated. Level II is the advanced trainee level in the series. Positions in this class continue to receive training in the principles, methods, and techniques of parole officer work, but also perform a greater variety of tasks which involve increased work involvement with inmates, parolees, potential employers, families, and other agency personnel primarily to obtain/substantiate information regarding housing, employment, treatment plans, etc. Such work is initially conducted under close supervision, which becomes more relaxed as the worker progresses on the job.

Requirements

Citizen, national, or permanent resident alien of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment.
Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university with a minimum of twelve semester credit hours in behavioral sciences (psychology, sociology, social work, counseling, criminal justice, etc.).
Six (6) months of progressively responsible professional work experience in counseling or similar work designed to help individuals solve problems and make decisions.
Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain a client/counselor type of relationship.
Ability to interview people to obtain and analyze information.
Ability to describe facts and events accurately.
Ability to logically analyze and identify needs.
Ability to help people understand the nature of their problems and consequences of actions.
Ability to present and/or guide people toward changing/retaining certain behaviors.
Ability to apply laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
Ability to prepare a variety of reports.
Ability to interact appropriately and communicate with a variety of persons.
Possess a valid driver's license at the time of appointment.
Subject to drug screening and intensive background check.
Must not have engaged in sexual abuse in a prison, jail, lockup, community confinement facility, juvenile facility or other institution.
Must not have been convicted of engaging or attempting to engage in sexual activity in the community facilitated by force, overt or implied threats of force, or coercion, or if the victim did not consent or was unable to consent or refuse.
Must not have been civilly or administratively adjudicated to have engaged in the activity described above.
Must not have been the subject of substantiated allegations of sexual abuse or sexual harassment or resigned during a pending investigation of alleged sexual abuse or sexual harassment.
