About The Position

The Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services (DPSCS) is seeking dedicated candidates to fill important roles within our department. The main purpose of this position is to support the people of Maryland in making communities safer by ensuring appropriate levels of control of offenders through comprehensive case management and intervention strategies; the delivery of victim services; entering and developing partnerships with stakeholders that lead to a shared vision; living the professional principles of the division. This position manages regional operations as delegated and functions as the chief staff person to the regional administrator.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, with a major in business or public administration or the social, behavioral or correctional sciences.
  • Six years in parole and probation work, at least two years of which must have involved administrative or supervisory responsibility over full time professional staff in an agency responsible for the supervision of adult probationers or parolees.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience as a community liaison with criminal justice officials and agencies, or social welfare agencies.
  • Experience conducting presentations before professional organizations
  • Experience with fiscal responsibility of allocating supplies and staff resources within a budgetary allowance.
  • Experience conducting training.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for planning, evaluating, authorizing, completing, coordinating and/or recommending acquisition and placement of personnel, office space and equipment in order to ensure optimal utilization of program resources consistent with mission/goals of the division.
  • Manages, plans, coordinates, and evaluates activities and performance of staff as delegated in order to facilitate optimal utilization of regional staff by scheduling and monitoring work assignments and by assessing results.
  • Develops/Recommends performance measures for the region consistent with the mission/goals and statewide strategic planning.
  • Audits and evaluates regional performance based on compliance with divisional standards consistent with the mission/goals to improve service delivery by reviewing records, identifying problems and recommending solutions.
  • Responsible for assigned personnel matters by coordinating, delegating, completing required tasks in order to ensure compliance with statutory and regulatory guidelines.
  • Communicates orally and in written form with staff, public officials, members of the criminal justice system, the general public, service agencies, and offenders to meet divisional mandates by answering questions, developing and interpreting policies, promoting the division, networking and problem solving.
