About The Position

The South Dakota Department of Corrections is hiring Parole Agents! This position manages a caseload of convicted felons on community supervision, develops working relationships with community placements and resources, and conducts special investigations to promote the reform and redirection of persons under community supervision while ensuring the safety of society.

Requirements

Successful applicant will be required to pass a polygraph examination, background investigation, and UA before final appointment.
With or without reasonable accommodation, the selected applicant must successfully complete the six-month training period and show proficiency in the following areas: Safety Training (firearms, OC exposure, Defensive Tactics, Taser exposure (optional)); Case Management; Evidence base practices.
Knowledge of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
Knowledge of principles, methods, and procedures to facilitate an acceptable reintegration and/or continued adjustment of persons under community supervision.
Knowledge of the attitude, problems, and behavior of offenders under community supervision.
Knowledge of human behavior and interpersonal relationships.
Knowledge of basic terminology and concepts of corrections and community supervision.
Knowledge of legal terminology and procedures.
Knowledge of chemical agents, restraints, and basic firearm safety and firearm techniques.
Knowledge of individual counseling techniques.
Skill to represent DOC and the Parole Division when collaborating with community partners and law enforcement entities.
Skill to document logically, accurately, and concisely pertinent information and decisions.
Skill to communicate information clearly and accurately.
Skill to manage time to meet policy required deadlines.
Skill to interact with persons under community supervision and others to establish and maintain effective professional working relationships with them.
Skill to maintain impartiality in dealing with persons under community supervision.
Skill to make educated and swift decisions regarding the appropriate response to caseload challenges.
Ability to be responsive to calls after normal work hours.
Ability to exercise the physical and mental capability to protect oneself and assigned firearm.
Ability to maintain composure under stressful conditions.
Ability to work independently and as a team member to ensure divisional goals are met.
