About The Position

To perform the services, activities and projects to operate, maintain, service and restore City Parks, downtown, CRA North East CRA, and City Properties to a high level of functions, safety and public satisfaction. This position is a beginning position with the Parks Services Division of the Parks and Recreation Department. Works in an indoor and outdoor environment and is subject to sun, heat, humidity, rain, cold, and inclement weather. Works during daytime, nighttime, and weekend hours.

Requirements

  • Ability to understand and carry out programs, policies and operational needs.
  • Ability to complete work orders in a timely manner.
  • Familiarity with the materials, methods, practices and equipment used in park grounds and facilities construction, maintenance and repair activities.
  • Types and levels of operations, maintenance and repair activities generally performed in municipal park grounds and facilities operation and repair programs.
  • Safe use of tools, equipment and vehicles used in daily duties.
  • Plant pests and diseases and methods of control and eradication.
  • Planting mixtures and fertilization requirements.
  • Methods, materials, tools and techniques used in propagating, planting and pruning of trees, plants and shrubs.
  • Landscape construction techniques.
  • Material Safety and Handling Standards management skill.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to clearly answer question by the public.
  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Prefer one (1) year experience in the construction, landscape maintenance, park operations or related field.
  • Most possess a valid (E) Florida Driver’s License.
  • Ability to talk by means of spoken words.
  • Acceptable eyesight (with or without corrections).
  • Acceptable hearing (with or with hearing aid).
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Sitting.
  • Able to lift and /and or carry weights of 50 pounds.
  • Walking or standing for periods of time.
  • Ability to exert up to fifty (50) pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
  • Must be able to operate turf and grounds maintenance equipment, hand tools and materials, building and facilities maintenance equipment, parks and recreation related equipment, and proper use of safety and personal protective equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all services, activities and projects of a Section Crew of the Park Services Division, which might include the maintenance/operation of municipal parks and City grounds, cemetery, median strips, playgrounds, sports facilities, and the construction, maintenance and repair of parks and recreation facilitates and equipment.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of policies and procedures. Follow Safety Policies and Procedures.
  • Inspect assigned municipal parks and City grounds and facilities and related facilities and equipment for needed repair or replacement using established guidelines and standards. Respond to safety issues within a 24 hours basis.
  • Inspect work sites before, during and after completion to assure work is completed in a highly satisfactory and thorough manner. Ensure all tools, equipment and vehicles are properly taken care of.
  • Assist with the maintenance of time, material and equipment use records.
  • Attend and participate in professional group meeting; stay abreast of new trends and innovations in the field of municipal parks, grounds and facilities construction, maintenance and repair.
  • Respond to and report difficult and sensitive citizen inquires and complaints. Report all incidents to immediate supervisor.
  • Work as a valuable and dependable team player to assist and improve programs, facilities and working conditions in the City.
  • Must be able to work nights, weekends and special events.
  • Essential employee during natural disaster to ensure a quick cleanup and restoration of the City.
  • Must complete sexual harassment training annually.
  • Must complete the required National Incident Management System (NIMS) training within 6 months of completion of the probationary period.
  • Driving of City Vehicles (A valid Florida Driver’s License is required).
  • Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
