About The Position

The City of Jackson is seeking a full-time Parks, Recreation and Cemetery Maintenance Worker. This role involves operating various construction-type equipment for the maintenance of parks, trails, public rights-of-way, buildings, and properties. Responsibilities include general maintenance of buildings, cemeteries (including burials), athletic fields, landscaping, lawn care, weed control, sidewalks, community pool, and catch basins. The position also requires operating equipment for snow and ice removal, loading and spreading materials, and performing maintenance of turf and golf course landscaping. Additionally, the role includes general maintenance and minor repairs of equipment, and working in the Parks and Cemetery garage to maintain and repair equipment and machinery. Requirements

High school graduate or G.E.D.
Four (4) or more years of routine operation and maintenance of dump trucks, backhoes, and related equipment.
Experience in the repair of machinery and equipment including industrial size pumps, motors and compressors, or equivalent combination of job-related education and experience.
Must demonstrate working knowledge of tools, equipment and materials used in operation and maintenance of machinery, troubleshooting techniques, and basic mechanics and electricity.
Must possess good driving record at time of appointment.
Must possess valid Michigan Class “A” Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) within six (6) months of hire, and good driving record at time of appointment.
Must be licensed to operate job required equipment as mandated by State law and must maintain licensure during employment in this classification.

Responsibilities

Operates various pieces of construction type equipment in the process of maintaining parks, trails, public rights-of-way, buildings, and properties.
Performs a variety of tasks from general maintenance of buildings, cemeteries, cemetery burials, athletic fields, landscaping, lawn care, weed control, sidewalks, community pool and catch basins.
Operates equipment in the removal of snow, ice and the loading and spreading of various types of materials related to work assignments.
Performs maintenance of turf and golf course landscaping.
Performs general maintenance, minor repairs, cleanup of equipment.
Works to maintain and repair equipment and machinery at the Parks and Cemetery garage.
Performs other related activities as assigned.
