About The Position

Under general supervision, performs various maintenance and repair activities of all buildings, grounds, and guest facilities at Seawolf Park, and other City’s parks and recreation center facilities as directed; provides work direction/oversight to other park staff. This role involves ensuring the upkeep and safety of park facilities during the night shift.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent; AND three years’ experience in parks facilities maintenance and repair operations, including one year of supervisory or lead work experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of City organization, operations, policies, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of traffic control operations.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of effective employee supervision.
  • Knowledge of business and personal computers, and spreadsheet software applications.
  • Skill in handling situations requiring diplomacy, fairness, firmness and sound judgment.
  • Skill in providing efficient customer service.
  • Skill in understanding and applying City policies and procedures.
  • Skill in basic mechanical skills and troubleshooting.
  • Skill in basic computer and data entry.
  • Skill in operating various light motorized equipment and vehicles.
  • Skill in using various hand and power tools.
  • Ability to operate a passenger vehicle, golf cart and all-terrain vehicle.
  • Ability to operate a vehicle with a trailer in tow.
  • Ability to operate hand tools and basic power tools.
  • Ability to operate heavy machinery.
  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with all levels within the City.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Must be able to work in an indoor and outdoor environment for duration of shift.
  • Must be able to physically perform all job requirements which include squatting, crouching, reaching, bending, twisting at the waist, sitting, standing, and operating an automatic full-size vehicle, ATV, basic cleaning tools, hand tools, power tools, heavy machinery, phone, and computer.
  • Some job duties may require the use of a ladder or scaffolding, which require climbing, descending, and working from heights.
  • Must be able to frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds unassisted. and occasionally lift and/or move more than 50 pounds assisted.
  • Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • Must be able to read, write and comprehend both written and oral communications, as well as respond in written and oral communication.
  • The ability to travel in and out of the local area by personal or company vehicle.
  • Must be able to walk or stand for long periods and as required for events.
  • Responsible for following all public health safety measures designed for their personal safety and the safety of coworkers and guests.

  • Office space is in an elevated building, and employees may be required to ascend and descend stairs or ramp to reach workspace.

Responsibilities

  • Provides work direction/oversight to parks night staff.
  • Operates light motorized vehicles and equipment.
  • Picks up trash and debris; pulls weeds.
  • Promote good public relations through friendly, helpful, accurate communication with park visitors.
  • Accurately complete daily reports and forms.
  • Maintain a neat and orderly work area.
  • Routine cleaning of workspace, tools, and equipment.
  • Cleaning of restrooms and common areas for guests.
  • Maintain trash for the park, and take garbage bags to dumpster.
  • Perform basic maintenance to include mechanical, electrical, and plumbing work.
  • Perform Park walkthrough, monitoring safety and maintenance needs, reporting them to the Park Manager.
  • Supports the relationship between the City of Galveston and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with citizens, visitors, and City staff; maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and City information; performs other duties as required or assigned.
  • Employees may at any time be required to work in order to provide for the safety and well-being of the general public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services, in the event of an emergency.
  • Calculate total payments received during the shift and reconcile with total sales.
  • Resolve Park visitor concerns when possible, and refer escalated issues to the manager as necessary.
  • Collect fees and issue tickets and wristbands to park visitors.
