About The Position

This position plays a vital role in keeping our city vibrant by performing semi-skilled and skilled maintenance, landscaping, and construction projects across local parks and facilities. In this role, you will safely operate and care for a diverse fleet of vehicles and equipment while preserving the beauty, structural integrity, and safety of Parks buildings and open spaces. This is a 9 month per year position.

Requirements

High school graduation or equivalent
One to two years of experience in parks maintenance tasks.
Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record at the time of hire
Ability to obtain a valid MT driver’s license within six months of hire.

Montana State Pesticide Applicators License
Certified Pool Operator (CPO) and/or Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) license
Certified Arborist Certificate
Montana State Boiler Operator License

Responsibilities

Turf management such as mowing, aerating, fertilizing, top dressing, edging and weed spraying
Maintain and repair irrigation systems.
Maintain, clean, and check operational function of various equipment and tools; report any problems or needs to Maintenance Worker 8 or immediate supervisor.
Remove trash and empty garbage receptacles at all park locations and facilities.
Follow planned landscaping designs to determine where to lay sod, sow grass, or plant flowers or foliage.
Trim or pick flowers and clean flower beds.
Attach wires from planted trees to support stakes.
Plant seeds, bulbs, foliage, flowering plants, grass, ground covers, trees, or shrubs, and apply mulch for protection, using gardening tools.
Mow or edge lawns, using power mowers or edgers.
Rake, mulch, and compost leaves.
Apply pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, or insecticides, salt, and sand.
Inspect and/or make repairs to playground equipment to ensure that all aspects of the equipment are safe and function safely; maintains records related to inspection and maintenance of such structures.
Clear snow/ice from various sidewalks, steps, and other walkways.
Perform unskilled or semi-skilled labor duties related to carpentry, plumbing, heating and electrical maintenance; assist supervisor and Maintenance Worker 8 in semi-skilled and skilled labor.
