PARKS MAINTENANCE WORKER I - G114 - Recreation Services - Part Time
About The Position
This position is responsible for the maintenance of park grounds and facilities. Duties include placing fences at special events, setting up stages, podiums, flags, and stairs. The role involves mowing grass, operating a weed eater, edging grass, and blowing leaves. Responsibilities also include assembling bleachers, benches, and permanent trash cans, as well as installing, maintaining, and repairing barbecue grills. The position prepares sports fields for games and tournaments, marks fields, and adjusts end zone goal posts. Additionally, the role involves applying fertilizer to sod grass and planting trees and shrubs. There may be duties related to inspecting, installing, maintaining, and repairing playground equipment, ordering parts and supplies, transporting parts and equipment, and maintaining tools and equipment. The role may also include installing, maintaining, and repairing basketball goals, nets, and poles. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Knowledge of the methods and techniques used in park maintenance activities
- Knowledge of the techniques used in the maintenance of assigned equipment
- Skill in problem solving and decision making
- Skill in the operation of hand and power tools
- Skill in oral and written communication
- Ability to read, write, and perform basic mathematical calculations
- Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years
- Must possess a valid driver's license
- Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid commercial driver's license (CDL) issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated

- Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of specialized training in the occupational field, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education.
