Under general supervision, performs a variety of manual and semi-skilled work in the maintenance and construction of grounds, parks, buildings, and recreational areas for the City. This role involves responding to daily work orders, maintaining tools and equipment, and attending meetings and trainings. Specific duties include mowing grass, planting and maintaining trees, shrubs, and flowers, applying herbicides and fertilizers, trimming hedges, pruning trees, mulching gardens, and disposing of litter. The position also involves digging trenches, installing drain tiles, keeping storm drains clear, repairing and painting park amenities like benches and fences, assisting with athletic field preparation, sharpening tools, and performing minor repairs on small equipment. Additionally, the role requires driving vehicles, maintaining tools and equipment, and ensuring the safety of fall surfaces under play structures. This is considered an essential services position, requiring work during extreme weather and natural disaster events, including shoveling snow and spreading ice-melt. The role also assists with special projects for the Parks and Recreation Department and local organizations.
